biggirlsrock: Every time I read a story about a dog mauling a kid, I hear the words that are coming out of you mouth. "My dog is different. He's so well trained. This was the first time something like this has ever happened."

As far as your statement about born and raised blah blah blah I was born and raised too, and I don't like your dog running around the beach. Somehow you feel entitled because your dog is "part of your family" or whatever nonsense you think. Your dog is just an animal, and the protection of human beings far outweighs your dog's so called right to run around the sand and take a dip in the ocean.

Too many people on our beaches, not enough dogs. We are responsible dog owners and our dogs are trained to simply chase a frisbee and bring it back to us and when they poop we clean it up and take it home with us to throw away in a bag. We have a yard for our dogs and they can run freely, but they love the ocean. Maybe a few less tourists and our dogs could enjoy where they were born and raised. I'm sick of so many flippin' rules on this small island. It's worth it to us to pay $500 to let our dogs go for a swim in the ocean now and then. Frick, Mexico, here we come.

Leash laws are not meant to protect your lawn from poop, they are meant to protect humans from being torn to pieces by dogs. Can't remember the last time a cat did that.

There are plenty of responsible dog owners but when you are at the beach and dummies let their dogs loose to poop all over, THESE are the ones that should not be fines but a leash should be placed arounf THEIR necks! Cats are my problem, they tear up the garbage, spray all over and even given birth in my car, in my garage!!! Owners of cats should also be held just as responsible. Pets are pets.

I feel sorry for owners and dogs who enjoy taking a swim in the ocean together and playing frisbie.

if the problem they are attempting to solve is the deficating issue, then they should make it a huge fine to not clean up after your dog. There are plenty of people who have their dogs on leases and do not clean up after them, or they put it in a plastic bag and leave the bag sitting somewhere forever. I am a responsible dog owner with a friendly dog who loves to run and swim at the beach, why should I be punished? The real problem is people with aggresive dogs on or off leashes at the beach!

I love cats and dogs. I own a cat. I am sure she has done her business outside of our property and I agree with kmpl33. Its only fair. I have had "big time" leash law issues with our neighbors numerous dogs and their visitors dogs. All 7 of them like to use our yard to do their business while the owner is nowhere around or, if they are around, they watch the dog "do the do" and walk away. So this is a big reason why I agree with this policy.

There should be a comparable law for cats (obviously not a "leash" law). My family's yard has been "blessed" with lots of "pure fertilizer" too many times to count....courtesy of the neighbor's cats. The trick is catching them for proof. No, cats aren't as dangerous as loose dogs, but they leave a more disgusting mess.

Now if they'd only patrol the beaches, to tag all the nimrods who let their dogs run loose and defacate right in front of me as I lie on the beach.

YES! Cite those irresponsible pet owners who let their dogs run loose in the neighborhood to defecate in other people's yards.
