Maui Hands Gallery, at locations around the island, has a lot going on this month.

Fine art oil painter, Jack Hamilton, will be demonstrating in the Maui Hands Gallery in Makawao at 1169 Makawao Ave. from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Thursday in August.

The artist usually starts and completes a painting during his demo, so this is a great opportunity to see the entire process of creating a beautiful painting. A great selection of Hamilton's recent oil paintings will be on display. For more information, call the gallery at 572-2008.

Maui Hands Gallery at 84 Hana Hwy., in Paia, presents Kathleen O'Bryan every Monday in August from 11 to 4 p.m. The artist will demonstrate her rare technique of undiluting her dry pigment soft pastels on black paper.

O'Bryan has made her living as a professional fine artist for more than 35 years, participating in solo, group and juried exhibitions in world-class cultural art markets in Santa Fe, New Mexico and Maui.

As a fine art colorist, O'Bryan discovered that with undiluted, dry pigment soft pastels, she could create saturated hues, which brought emotional expressions to expansive skies and infinite landscapes. She found that painting on black paper rather than white as her ground eliminates all light and wave competition, which allows the pastel medium to achieve the radiant brilliance found in nature.

Maui Hands Gallery at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa in Ka'anapali presents new photos by Scott Mead this month. Meet the artist from 1 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays.

A virtuoso at the use and manipulation of light, Mead carefully selects his subjects and locations to optimize the ever-changing luminosity and atmospheric conditions the Hawaiian Islands present. Come and see his newest works that he does on dye-infused aluminums while learning about the inspirations behind each piece.
