Candidate does not have a track record in South Maui

July 9, 2012
The Maui News

The most critical quality for choosing a candidate to represent us in the state Legislature is that the person has a history of residing in and working for our district.

Since I live in Kihei, I was shocked to receive a campaign brochure from Kaniela Ing, which didn't even list which district he is running for - and gave a Makawao address.

I'd never heard of him before. How can someone represent South Maui if he has no history of being a participating member of our community? According to his LinkedIn profile, he is currently an at-large member of Neighborhood Board 14 of the City and County of Honolulu, and according to The Maui News he is currently a graduate student (at UH-Manoa). This sounds like an Oahu resident to me.

Maui, please don't vote for someone with no Maui track record in our community. We need a representative, not an opportunistic job seeker.
