'THE LEARNED LADIES'
Todd Van Amburgh directs a talented troupe of young actors in a production of Moliere's "The Learned Ladies" ("Les Femmes Savantes"), opening at 7:30 p.m. at the Seabury Hall Performance Studio. The modern translation and adaptation by Freyda Thomas brings the action into the 1950s, scattering phrases like "they know beans about (it)" and "he's such a creep!" but still incorporating a "c'est moi" or "je ne sais quois" here and there. Tickets are $11 for adults, $9 for senior citizens, and $5 for students; available by calling 573-1257.

SATURDAY, FEB. 27
MAKANA
This ain't your grandfather's slack key. Known for his traditional stylings and contemporary sensibilities, Makana will bring his unmistakable sound to the Maui Arts & Cultural Center's McCoy Studio Theater at 7:30 p.m. With a firm foundation in the traditions of ki ho'alu - Hawaiian slack key guitar - Makana adds the influences of folk, rock, ethnic, bluegrass, jazz, traditional, ambient and classical music to create a style all his own. His music transcends category and trend by integrating eclectic elements into his traditional Hawaiian slack key, to create his arrangements. The result is pure innovation, and the charting of new sonic frontiers. Tickets are $32, plus applicable fees; available at the MACC box office, 242-7469 or www.mauiarts.org.
THIRD EYE BLIND
Alternative rock band Third Eye Blind will make its debut Maui performance at the Royal Lahaina Resort, with an intimate acoustic concert under the stars. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Lahaina band Barefoot Minded will open the show at 6:30 p.m. Third Eye Blind's current line-up includes Stephan Jenkins on vocals and guitar; Brad Hargreaves on drums and percussion; and Tony Fredianelli on guitar and vocals. The band's 1997 self-titled debut album was a six-time platinum-certified success, thanks to hit singles including "Semi-Charmed Life," "Graduate" and "Losing a Whole Year." Tickets are $65 or $85 for premium VIP seating. For tickets, call 661-3611.
MATISYAHU
Ultra-orthodox Jew Matisyahu will bring unorthodox Hadistic reggae to the island during a show beginning at 7 p.m. Doors open at 5 p.m. at Lahaina Civic Center. When Matisyahu emerged in 2004 with his debut album, "Shake Off the Dust ... Arise," his musical persona seemed to some a novelty. Here was a Hasidic Jew - dressed in a black suit with a broad-brimmed black hat worn over a yarmulke, and sporting a full, untrimmed beard - who nevertheless performed toasting raps about the glories of traditional Judaism over reggae beats in a dancehall style directly from Jamaica. Churning out hits like "One Day," "King Without a Crown," his diverse style soon garnered Grammy nominations, gold record certifications and an army of adoring fans. Tickets are $25, available at www.bampproject.com or www.groovetickets.com.
