A 9-year-old Mexican youth (Adrian Alonzo) sets out to find his mother (Kate del Castillo), an illegal immigrant working in Los Angeles in this tear-jerking drama. Well received at last year’s Sundance Film Festival, it has had critics singing its praises ever since. “Ugly Betty’s” America Ferrera is one of the helpful souls who come to the boy’s aid, which is a good thing since he’s got some pretty nasty and stupid folks on his trail. Patricia Riggen directs the mostly-in-Spanish film whose audiences are advised to bring hankies.
