UH picked fourth in conference
SOLOMON ELIMIMIAN
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The University of Hawaii was picked to finish fourth in the Western Athletic Conference in both the coaches’ and media’s polls, which were released Wednesday. Warriors linebacker Solomon Elimimian was voted top defensive player. Fresno State was picked to finish first by the coaches, getting seven of nine first-place votes. Boise State was the media’s pick, receiving 25 of 45 votes for No. 1. Elimimian was a first-team all-conference pick last season, when he had a team-high 145 tackles, including 12 for loss. He has 313 career tackles, seventh-most in WAC history and 131 shy of breaking the record set by Robert Rodriguez of Texas-El Paso from 2001 to 2004. Boise State running back Ian Johnson, who rushed for 1,041 yards and 16 touchdowns last season, was named top offensive player. Hawaii, which won the WAC title last season and went 12-1 with a loss to Georgia in the Sugar Bowl, will open this season on Aug. 30 at Florida.
