Bears advance with win over Na Alii

WAILUKU — Shauna Ah Yen scored 13 points to lead the Baldwin High School girls basketball to a 42-34 victory over King Kekaulike in th first round of the Maui Interscholastic League Division I tournament on Tuesday night at the Bears’ gym.

Samantha Agtunong added eight points for the Bears (6-7), who next face top-seeded Lahainaluna (11-1) in a D-I semifinal game today at 6:30 p.m.

Mykel Love scored 17 points to lead Na Alii (1-12), who, along with the Bears, had no 3-pointers during the game.

• HANA 44, LANAI 15: In a Division II first-round game, Cheyenne Kalama-Kekona scored 16 points and Tiana Kalalau added 14, accounting for the majority of Hana’s offensive output.

Leina Basques led Lanai (3-8) with six.

Hana (5-6), which next plays top-seeded Molokai today, had 15 team fouls to Lanai’s four. The Dragons only shot one free throw in the game, made by Miracle Helekahi.
