Wild opening weekend in MIL football

A nailbiter, a methodical win, and a shocking rout of a perennial champion — that summed up the opening weekend of MIL football games that counted.

Maui High stands atop the league's Division I standings after a 10-7 win over Kamehameha Maui that seemed severely unlikely for all but the last minute or so of play — and came with heavy hearts for a former member of the program who died the day before.

This week, the Sabers get a Baldwin team that is coming off one of its worst losses ever — and the Bears could be missing all-state quarterback Keelan Ewaliko for a little while.

And, as some things change, that doesn't seem to happen to the Lahainaluna program.

Friday, Lahainaluna vs. Kamehameha Maui at War Memorial Stadium, 7 p.m.

Saturday, Baldwin vs. Maui High at War Memorial Stadium, 7 p.m.
