| | A new era for Restating the ObviousJanuary 27, 2012 - Harry EagarToday, I retired from The Maui News after almost 25 years, and from newspapering (as a regular job) after 45 years. Restating the Obvious will continue, however, at this same stand, and it might even be more local. Now that I'm not covering or liable to cover just about any Maui County issue, I don't have to avoid appearing to favor one position or another. So I can advocate cutting Molokai loose as its own county, for example, and stop subsidizing the work-shy Friendly Islanders. Generally, though, RtO will go on much as it has been since 2008 -- extolling the joys of greasy pork and making fun of the witless. I hope you stay, and for my part, I'll try to keep it interesting. BTW, it was preparations for retirement that kept posting light the past month. RtO should get back to regular pace starting now.
